Do you have a research discovery that could help improve the lives of patients? The Gates Grubstake Fund provides three $350,000 awards annually to support the translational development of regenerative medicine projects into patented, clinic-ready products. The Gates Grubstake Fund application period opens in June, with a deadline for the written proposal in September. For those selected, a final pitch competition is held in November.
The Grubstake Fund honors the spirit of Gates Institute benefactor Charles C. Gates, a Colorado businessman and entrepreneur who sought to infuse his family’s philanthropy with the tools of collaboration, creativity and a human focus. The Grubstake process recognizes that medical researchers are fantastic at basic science, yet often need expert guidance in protecting and translating their ideas into viable products for human benefit.
Successful applications generally have proof of concept data to support the use of their product in the clinic. Applicants are encouraged to approach our Entrepreneur in Residence early in the application process to obtain assistance with the application, which is focused on product development and commercialization.
Regenerative medicine is interpreted broadly by the Gates Center to include not only cell- and gene-based therapies, but also any therapeutic or device that contributes to a regenerative response in patients (e.g., proteins, antibodies, small molecules, and nanoparticles).
Applicants must be members of Gates Institute. The membership application can be found here.
