Tom Gronow

Thomas M. Gronow, Ed.D., M.H.A., currently serves as president and CEO of UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital. A Florida native, Tom started his career in aviation and holds his commercial/multi-engine rating. Tom’s experience in aviation has enabled him to serve as a subject matter expert in communication, reliability, quality, and patient safety design. Tom has been with UCH since 2014. Prior to that, Tom served as vice president of operations at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh, PA. Tom started his healthcare career at UPMC as an administrative fellow in 2007.

Tom received his Doctor of Education from the George Washington University, Master of Health Administration from University of South Florida, and Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Tom also holds a certification as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Tom’s leadership expertise centers on complex adaptive systems and how constructs of leadership, learning, change, and culture are used to impact organizational performance. Tom’s passion is developing leaders and teams to perform and adapt in order to deliver safer, more efficient care to patients.

Outside of his professional work, Tom served a member of the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) accreditation committee. He is passionate about healthcare education and serves as a leader for the fellowship and internship programs that are administered through UCH. Tom serves as faculty for the UC Denver MBA-Health Administration program. He is also a board member for Donor Alliance whose mission is to save lives through organ and tissue donation and transplantation. Tom was also recognized in 2016 as a Modern Healthcare Up and Comer and in 2019 as a 40 Under 40 recipient by the Denver Business Journal.
