The Genomics Core (GC) is a genomic facility that provides access to next generation sequencing (NGS), DNA microarray, and single-cell genomics technology. An integral part of the core is the ability to assist with experimental design and provide customers with consultations and data analysis services using novel algorithms. The GC offers a variety of cutting-edge technology services, including (1) DNA/RNA quantity and quality analysis to assess quality and quantity of purified or synthesized DNA/RNA samples before their subsequent analysis; (2) DNA next-gen sequencing (Illumina MiSeq, HiSeq and NovaSeq 6000 for analysis of RNA transcriptional profile, cell genome mutational load, epigenetic changes, etc.); (3) Single-Cell RNA-seq (10X Genomics) and (4) DNA/RNA shearing services to facilitate studying epigenetic profiles of cells of interests. In 2020, the GC purchased Visium Spatial Gene Expression technology from 10X Genomics for its facility. Visium Spatial Gene Expression is a next-generation molecular technology for classifying tissue based on total mRNA. This technology will allow Gates Institute members to map the whole transcriptome with morphological context to discover novel insights into normal development, disease pathology, and clinical translational research.
